Owners of devices running under the Windows Phone operating system will soon get a File Manager as part of the platform, it seems.

This was one of the features that most users said they would like to see included in the OS, and it seems that Microsoft might have finally completed it.

On the User Voice website for Windows Phone, a request for this feature to be included in the platform has been marked as complete.

“This feature is now available in Windows Phone 8. And as always, if you think this feature or any other feature needs improvement be sure to create new product suggestions so we can track them all and other users can vote on your ideas,” one of the site’s admins noted in a post.

However, no further details on the File Manager have been provided as of now, and it remains to be seen whether it will be released as part of a new OS upgrade or as a standalone application.

In my opinion, users will have to wait for the next flavor of Windows Phone to arrive on their devices to get a taste of the new feature.

According to WMPoweruser, we might see that enhancement included in the official GDR3/Update 3 when it starts rolling out to users in a few weeks.

However, provided that the feature will need some more fine-tuning, users might have to wait for it until next year, when Windows Phone 8.1 is released.

The good news, however, is that Microsoft has listened to users’ needs, and that it has allocated resources to ensure that the feature makes it inside its platform.

Hopefully, it will not be too long before some more info on the matter is provided, so stay tuned to learn the news.

In the meantime, you might want to have a look at the aforementioned User Voice website for Windows Phone, where you can post your ideas on what Microsoft should include in the mobile operating system next.
