Microsoft may not release any beta version of the SDK

Although Windows Phone 8 SDK has already been leaked last week, Microsoft has yet to launch the final version of the software development kit.

With the Windows Phone 8 operating system officially unveiled, Microsoft is expected to release the platform’s SDK pretty soon, though the Redmond-based company has yet to reveal the exact launch date.

According to the latest hearsay, Windows Phone 8 SDK will be announced on September 7, though Nokia is rumored to unveil its first WP8-powered devices two days earlier.

However, all might go well as the first Windows Phone 8 devices won’t hit shelves until early October, so developers will have enough time to create and test their applications by the time the next version of Microsoft’s operating system goes live.

For the time being, Windows Phone developers can take advantage of the recently leaked emulator, though they cannot test useful capabilities such as Bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communication).

Today, the folks over at WPSauce discovered that the Windows Phone 8 SDK webpage is up and running, though the package has yet to be uploaded on Microsoft’s servers.

Still, this might indicate that Microsoft plans to skip releasing beta versions of the SDK and launch the final version directly through this website.

Those who access the Windows Phone 8 SDK dedicated page will be met with the following message:

When Windows Phone SDK 8.0 is available, we’ll update this page with a link to the release.

In the meantime, you can install Windows Phone SDK 7.1 (and the WPSDK 7.1.1 Update) and continue to build apps and games that target Windows Phone 7.5. The existing Windows Phone SDK installs side by side with Visual Studio 2012, and you can feel confident that the code you write today will work on Windows Phone 8 devices.”

Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
