Microsoft has yet to start the deployment of the Windows Phone 8.1 update, but some lucky owners of Lumia smartphones have already managed to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system.

We have already reported that Nokia Lumia 925 owners in Finland and Argentina are eligible for the Windows Phone 8.1 update, but aside from that, there are no reports of other smartphones receiving the update.

The good news is that Microsoft will offer the update to Nokia Lumia 925 users in other countries beginning next week. According to Microsoft India, Windows Phone 8.1 will be available for compatible smartphones during the first two weeks of July.

Unfortunately, the statement is a bit vague and does not offer details on when exactly the update will be available and for which smartphones. It’s also unclear whether Microsoft India only refers to availability of Windows Phone 8.1 in India.

Nevertheless, Windows Phone fans should patiently wait for the update, as Microsoft seems to have just started to roll it out in various countries.

And we have new details on which country will get it next. According to Spanish blog nokialumia, the Windows Phone 8.1 update will arrive in the country next week.

The information has been confirmed by Microsoft during the “Lumia Experience” event. The first smartphone that will receive the update is, once again, Nokia Lumia 925.

There is no confirmation for other smartphones, so those who own Windows Phone handsets other than the Lumia 925 will probably have to wait a bit longer for the update to arrive on their devices.

Microsoft was pretty clear when it said that Windows Phone 8.1 would be rolled out in stages, so depending on country, carrier and smartphone, users might get the update sooner or later.

The bad news is that there is no roadmap for the rollout at the moment, though some carriers have already stated when they will start seeding the Windows Phone 8.1 update.

For example, French carrier SFR has confirmed that it will kick off the deployment of Windows Phone 8.1 on July 8, but only for Nokia Lumia 925.

Vodafone Australia also confirmed last week that it had started to test the update and would begin the rollout soon after it was done. Usually, it takes between 5 and 10 days for the carrier to test new major updates, so Vodafone Lumia 925 owners should expect to receive the update later this week at the earliest.
