December 2014 statistics provided by AdDuplex reveal that Windows Phone 8.1 is now running on no less than 57.9 percent of all Windows Phone devices on the market, whereas Windows Phone 8 has dropped to 27.1 percent in the last 30 days.

The old Windows Phone 7 is only powering 15 percent of all devices, these stats show, and the trend is obviously pointing to a fast growth for Windows Phone 8.1.

As far as Windows Phone devices on the market are concerned, Microsoft/Nokia obviously holds the leading spot with 95.51 percent, followed by HTC with 2.76 percent, and Samsung with 0.98 percent.

Lumia 520 still number one

The very affordable Lumia 520 was, is, and will probably continue to be the number one Windows Phone device on the market for many months from now, with today's stats pointing to a market share of no less than 25.4 percent. This means that 1 in 4 Windows Phone devices out there is a Lumia 520.

The second place goes to Lumia 630 with 8.1 percent, followed by Lumia 625 with 7.3 percent, and Lumia 920 with 5 percent. Flagship devices such as Lumia 930 and 1520 do not show up in the worldwide stats.

In the United States, the market where Microsoft still has a very hard time getting closer to rivals Apple and Android, Lumia 521 continues to be number one with 22.4 percent, followed by the same Lumia 630 and Lumia 520 with 12.4 and 12.2 percent, respectively.

In India, on the other hand, which is currently one of Microsoft's key markets for affordable Windows Phones, the Lumia 520 is also leading the charts with 28.6 percent, followed by 720 and 625 with 8.5 and 8.1 percent, respectively. Again, flagships are nowhere to be seen in these stats.

Overall, Microsoft's most affordable models continue to bring home the bacon, so it's easy to see why the company is not so keen on bringing new flagships to the market in the coming months. On the bright side, more users are switching to Windows Phone 8.1.
