Windows Phone 8.1 is becoming a much more popular choice for smartphone buyers across the world, and statistics demonstrate that more users are actually deploying this particular version on their devices these days.

AdDuplex data indicates that in September, the 8.1 OS version was running on 39.1 percent of all devices with Windows Phone, while the core 8.0 build was powering 45.7 percent of these smartphones.

Windows Phone 7 has a share of 15.2 percent, but the biggest winner is clearly Windows Phone 8.1, which increased in approximately 30 days nearly 15 percent from 24.4 percent in August.

According to AdDuplex information, these stats “are based on data collected from 4528 Windows Phone apps running AdDuplex SDK v.2. The raw analyzed was collected over the day of September 24, 2014, unless otherwise stated.”

Lumia 520 still the king

The very affordable Lumia 520, which has been selling in record numbers since its release, continues to be the top Windows Phone device on the market, with a share of 30.6 percent.

Lumia 625, 920, and 630 come next, but very far behind, with 7.1 percent, 5.7 percent, and 5.4 percent, respectively.

As AdDuplex notes, Lumia 630 scored a really impressive growth in the past 30 days.

“Lumia 630 gets all the attention in the worldwide chart this month. It made its first step to top 10 in August and it jumped to 4th position with a 5.4 percent of the market so far. It would be number 2 if we combined it with Lumia 635,” the company said.

As far as the United States is concerned, the Nokia Lumia 521 leads the charts with a share of 28.9 percent, followed by the standard Lumia 520 with 17.3 percent. Lumia 630, 920, and 822 are next with 9.7 percent, 6.3 percent, and 4.6 percent, respectively.

In Europe, Lumia 520 is also the top Windows Phone device with 31.8 percent, followed by Lumia 625 with 9.8 percent, and 630 with 6.6 percent.

Nokia obviously number one WP maker

Unsurprisingly, Nokia continues to be the number one Windows Phone manufacturer in the world and currently holds a share of 95.14 percent. HTC comes second with 3.11 percent, followed by Samsung with 1.08 percent, and Huawei with 0.63 percent.

“HTC, Samsung, and Huawei have lost a bit since August,” AdDuplex says. “We are finally seeing some meaningful numbers from all the new OEMs and the top 2 so far are Prestigio and Micromax.”

These figures are undoubtedly encouraging for Microsoft, as the company keeps pushing users to adopt Windows Phone 8.1, and there’s no doubt that the improvements it releases make the platform altogether a lot more appealing.
