Windows Phone 7, the latest version of Microsoft's mobile operating system, is about to get better, with a number of ten enhanced movie apps expected to be released for it from Paramount Digital Entertainment.

According to the company, the movie apps of Paramount Pictures' films would be available exclusively on Windows Phone 7 devices, with SCHOOL OF ROCK released today on U.S. and Canadian Windows Phone Marketplace, and with additional titles expected to become available soon.

These apps will arrive both on the U.S. and international markets, some of them being expected to land before the end of the ongoing year, the company notes.

The apps were built using Microsoft Silverlight and will offer users the possibility to access the full movie, along with menus, bonus features and unique experiences, which are not available for users of other platforms.

Some of the titles that would soon arrive in the Paramount Silverlight Enhanced Movies for Windows Phone series include: ZOOLANDER, WAITING FOR SUPERMAN and GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA. More will be announced in the future.

“Through our relationship with Microsoft, we're able to provide consumers new, enhanced ways to enjoy movies from anywhere on Windows Phone 7,” said Geremie Camara, Vice President Product Development for Paramount Digital Entertainment.

“Using Silverlight technology and adding interactive and social networking features, our enhanced movie apps transform the movie viewing experience into a true entertainment experience.”

Among the features that these applications come with, we can count the possibility to create custom clips, or to add a Movie Info feature through which they can identify actors, objects, music, and places in the movie, while accessing contextual information.

Windows Phone 7 is backed by a rich developer ecosystem that is creating a variety of quality apps and games, like Paramount Entertainment's movie apps, that take advantage of the phone's unique features and design,” said Todd Brix, senior director, Windows Phone Marketplace, Microsoft Corp.

“We're proud to have these Paramount titles that offer unique experiences for consumers exclusively available on Windows Phone 7 this holiday season,” he continued.

The School of Rock movie app was made available for download via the Marketplace hub on all Windows Phone 7 devices. The app was developed in collaboration with Digitalsmiths, Hypershow and Trailer Park.
