When the first Windows Phone 7 handsets arrive on the market on October 21st, those who will purchase them would have the possibility to enjoy a number of around 2k applications available for download via the Windows Phone Marketplace, and the Rocket Riot game would be one of them.

The application is nothing else than the mobile version of the popular action-packed side-view shooter Rocket Riot, offering Windows Phone 7 users the possibility to try out the app even when on the go.

“In this highly stylized eight-bit era style game, it's you against Blockbeard and a wickedly riotous cast of jet-packed villains. Blockbeard is an evil, legless pirate, who flies around with a jetpack. He was imprisoned, but escaped and now wants his revenge,” the app is described on the Windows Phone Blog.

The application comes with full screen controls, so that one would be able to guide the character through the destructible mazes the game features.

“Swipe the screen on the left to power your jetpack and on the right to fire your powerful bazooka. Uncover special power-ups, or even burrow into different areas of the map. The map regenerates, keeping the action fast-paced, but time doesn't heal all wounds,” the said blog post continues.

As stated above, this is only one of the mobile applications that would become available for Windows Phone 7 devices when they land on shelves on October 21st.

Ported to Windows Phone 7 using XNA Game Studio, the game comes with a try-before-you-buy demo, as well as with Xbox LIVE achievements and leaderboards.

The game was brought to display by the guys over at the Windows Phone blog (who will continue to showcase apps until October 21 is here) mainly due to the increased performance levels it can offer.

“The game also takes advantage of multi-touch capabilities of Windows Phone 7 devices allowing the user to move around the map at the same time using a flick gesture system to fire rockets at enemies,” the said blog post reads.

Users would also have the possibility to use the handset's accelerometer to move the character around screen, while benefiting from multiple control schemes.
