Microsoft has confirmed some issues related to mouse performance on machines powered by the recently released Windows MultiPoint Server 2011. Customers running the operating system can download an update from the Redmond company immediately.

Available free of charge via the Microsoft Download Center, the Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 RTM refresh is designed to enable users to choose between two performance profile for their mice.

“You should consider applying this update only if you are using Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 and have noticed slow mouse movement response times when running certain types of video,” the company said.

“This update is intended for computers with local stations that are using USB-based, multi-function station hubs.

“This update is not recommended for local stations that have direct video connections to graphics cards or remote stations that have LAN-based thin client connections using the Remote Desktop Protocol.”

Microsoft released Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 to manufacturing in February 2011, approximately one year after the operating system it’s designed to replace Windows MultiPoint Server 2010.

With the platform reaching RTM, the software giant also started offering customers the possibility to take it out for a spin before actually buying it.

A free, trial-based copy of Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 is available for download from Microsoft, and the company is gearing up for broad availability in mid-April 2011.

Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 comes in two flavors, namely Standard (with support for up to 10 stations / sessions) and Premium (with support for as much as 20 stations / sessions).

“By default, Windows Multipoint Server is optimized for video playback across a wide set of media types and hardware configurations,” the company said.

“Installing this update allows you to choose an alternate performance profile that has some graphics processing-intensive tasks disabled. On some hardware configurations, this results in more responsive mouse movements during Internet video playback.”
