Microsoft has confirmed an issue related to Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 in which customers already leveraging the solution have reported that new station information is not provided by MultiPoint Manager. The Redmond company not only acknowledged the problem but also detailed the symptoms, offering an update to affected customers.

“With the following optional update, local and remote stations can use custom Remote Desktop Services (RDS) listeners to connect to a computer that is running Windows MultiPoint Server 2011,” the software giant said.

The Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 refresh is available free of charge on the Microsoft Download Center, where customers have been able to get it since earlier this month.

Microsoft stresses that the update should be deployed only in a specific scenario, as opposite as for all Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 deployments.

“Apply the following update only if the following conditions are true:

- You use a local or remote station device that uses custom RDS listeners to connect to a computer that is running Windows MultiPoint Server 2011.

- When the device is used to log on, you want the user interface of MultiPoint Manager to dynamically update while MultiPoint Manager runs,” the company said.

Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 was released to manufacturing in February 2011, at approximately a year since its predecessor’s RTM milestone.

The software giant also made available for download trial releases of Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 RTM which can be grabbed via the links included at the bottom of this article.

Offered in two flavors, Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 Standard and Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 Premium, this operating system is designed for installation on a server which can then provide individual desktop experiences to as many as 20 individual users.

The platform is perfect for organizations that need to supply multiple users with Windows 7 PC-like experiences while lacking the financial resources to invest in the actual computers.
