Microsoft has opened up MSN Direct content to Windows Mobile-based devices. The announcement was delivered at the Mobile World Congress 2008, with the introduction of a technology preview designed to permit access to MSN Direct to the users of devices running the Windows Mobile operating system. In this manner, an entire range of new materials have become available via the Microsoft platform for mobile phones. From the latest news to business, sports and entertainment reports to weather updates and stock information, the technology preview connects Windows Mobile with MSN Direct at an entirely new level.

"This is the first time MSN Direct content has been made available to mobile phones, and it is a strong next step for the delivery of MSN Direct content where customers have said they need it the most," said Eric Lang, general manager of the MSN Direct initiative at Microsoft. "We are excited about the opportunities this new application will bring to mobile operators, consumers and the industry."

"The MSN Direct for mobile technology preview is a clear demonstration of Microsoft's commitment to bringing simple and useful information to mobile customers," said Alexander Gounares, corporate vice president of Microsoft Ads and Commerce. "We are pleased to offer this preview and look forward to feedback."

Essentially, the MSN Direct client for Windows Mobile is a free application, but of course that the actual traffic is not and depends on the wireless carriers. Users can either go to MSN Direct using a mobile browser and follow the instructions, or download the technology preview on the PC and then synchronize the client on Windows Mobile. End users will be able to customize the content served by MSN Direct in accordance with their preferences. Microsoft emphasized the fact that all materials have been tailored for Windows Mobile devices.
