Redmond-based software company Microsoft is already known to be working on a new flavor of its Windows Mobile operating system, 6.5.3, and it seems that it has already made an appearance into the wild, on a series of handsets at the International 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. The new OS flavor had been spotted before around the Web, in a series of leaked builds and on Microsoft's website, and it seems that it might not be too long before it arrives on the market.

Mum's the word from Microsoft on the new OS flavor, yet it seems that handset makers are already upgrading their devices to it. The guys over at neowin caught the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 platform at CES 2010, running on handsets like the Toshiba TG01 or the Pharos Traveler 137 GPS. According to the news site, both handsets made an appearance at the event pre-loaded with WM 6.5.3 Build 23091.5.3.0.

There are no details on what Microsoft plans to do with the new OS iteration, but it might not be too long before the first phones running under it emerge on the market. Moreover, we might also see manufacturers delivering updates to the new flavor for some of their older phones, probably to most of those that came to shelves with Windows Mobile 6.5 on board.

Those of you who might have kept an eye on the evolution of the OS, details on which emerged via the long list of leaked builds that we've seen during the past six months or so, should already know what WM 6.5.3 brings around. Better touch support, enhanced menus, gesture control or visual enhancements are only some of the features that Windows Mobile 6.5.3 should bring forth. In other words, it will prove a nice update for the WM 6.5 OS released back in October. However, it is not Windows Mobile 7, and the true enhancements for Microsoft's mobile client are expected to arrive only with this flavor.
