Microsoft has added new features to its storage service in the cloud. The evolution of Windows Live SkyDrive is marked by the release of several updates earlier this week, with a focus on enhancing the management capabilities available to end users. As the new updates to Windows Live SkyDrive are gradually rolled out, users will notice that they will be able to handle their digital images stored online with much greater ease, according to Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager on the Windows Client Communications Team.

“If you have Silverlight, you can arrange your photos by simply dragging them into the order you want. You can also sort your photos and files by name, size, date, or type. Now you can arrange the photos in your albums and slide shows and tell stories the way you want to tell them,” revealed a member of the Windows Live SkyDrive team. “Coming soon when you visit your friends’ profiles you can view photos they’re tagged in by selecting “Photos of <your friend’s name>” from the menu under their profile picture. You'll see this entry point in a few days!”

Windows Live SkyDrive already leveraged Silverlight via the Slide show feature, and it appears that Microsoft is taking support for its Adobe Flash competitor a step further. The latest evolution of Windows Live SkyDrive involves not only management features and enhanced Silverlight integration, but also a bridge to Windows Live Favorites.

“As you already know, you can keep your favorites in sync between computers using SkyDrive and the Windows Live Toolbar. Now, the next time you visit your favorites on Windows Live, your existing favorites will automatically move to SkyDrive,” the Windows Live SkyDrive team representative added.

Previous updates to Windows Live SkyDrive brought no less than 25GB of free storage space to users, in December 2008, also opening up the service to at least 62 markets around the world in May 2008.
