Windows Live Essentials Wave 5 will succeed Windows Live Essentials 2011, or Wave 4, which hit general availability at the start of October 2010. Of course, is not out of the ordinary for Microsoft to plan ahead, and even to start shaping up a next major iteration for one of its offerings ahead of the finalization of the current version.

It is the case with a range of the company’s products, and especially those for which Steven Sinofsky, President, Windows and Windows Live Division is responsible, including Windows and Windows Live.

Of course, just as it still has to confirm any details officially on Windows 8 and Windows Server 8, the software giant is yet to provide any information on Windows Live Wave 5, although I’m hearing that the next release of Essentials and the next version of the Windows client will play extremely nice together.

A third-party source is revealing that Windows Live Essentials has moved forward after the October release of Wave 4, and that it is now up to Build 16.0.1130.1102.

There’s no telling at this point in time whether Build 16.0.1130.1102 of Windows Live Essentials is part of Wave 5, or an interim upgrade for the suite of rich clients designed to expand Windows into the Cloud.

Microsoft did share a few details, mentioning Windows Live Essentials Wave 5, as is the case with a job listing for Test Lead, Senior - Windows, Live Safety Platform.

“We are looking for the test lead for the Live WL Anti-Abuse team which will be at the core for the Safety team to mine intelligent data and provide services to various partners in Windows Live teams that requires Safety and Security services.

“The team has built a great platform for mining the abuse data using distributed computation platform in Windows Live Wave 4 and getting geared up for Wave 5 to work with Windows Live teams such as Live ID , Hotmail, Messenger teams plan and execute on abuse scenarios.

“Wave 5 planning is about to start and now is a great time to come join us to be part of the planning process to chart out Windows Live Wave 5 Abuse strategy and executed this to deliver Wave 5!” (emphasis added)

And there’s another position opened at Microsoft, for a Software Development Engineer in Test II - Windows Live, Safety Platform.

“Protecting the online experience & safety of customers, is important to the success of Microsoft, Windows, and Windows Live. We are wrapping up Live Wave 4 deliverables and kicking off the planning process for Windows Live Wave 4 and now is the right time to come join us to be part of Windows Live Wave 5 Safety to plan and execute Wave 5.”
