Microsoft recently released SQL Server 2005 SP4 to manufacturing, and provided a range of additional downloads on the heels of the Service Pack. The Feature Pack for SQL Server 2005 SP4 is just one example, with the Windows Internal Database also getting an update the past week.

At the time of this article customers running WYukon can grab both the ‘Update for Windows Internal Database x86 (WYukon SQL Server SP4 x86)’ and the ‘Update for Windows Internal Database x64 (WYukon SQL Server 2005 SP4 x64)’ via the Microsoft Download Center – (here and here).

“Windows Internal database is a relational data store for Windows roles and features only, such as Windows SharePoint Services and Windows Server Update Services,” Microsoft explained.

“This update upgrades Windows Internal Database used by Windows components such as Windows SharePoint Services and Windows Server Update Services.”

At the bottom of this article you will be able to find the deployment instructions for the Windows Internal Database provided by the software giant.

In addition, I have also included the download link for the fourth upgrade to SQL Server 2005.

Customers that have not upgraded to SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 should start planning for the integration of SP4.

According to the Redmond company, the Windows Internal Database updates can only be deployed on Windows Server 2003.

Here are the steps that IT professionals need to take:

“- For a new install of the Windows Internal Database when it does not exist already:

msiexec /i SSEE_10.msi CALLERID=OCSetup.exe /qn REBOOT=ReallySupress /l*v [logfilepath]

- To upgrade an existing lower version of the Windows Internal Database:

msiexec /i SSEE_10.msi CALLERID=OCSetup.exe REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vomus /qn REBOOT=ReallySupress /l*v [logfile]

- To completely uninstall the Windows Internal Database:

start /wait msiexec /x {BDD79957-5801-4A2D-B09E-852E7FA64D01} CALLERID=OCSetup.exe /qn REBOOT=ReallySupress /l*v [logfile],” Microsoft explained.
