In its crusade against users owning pirated copies of Windows who are downloading updates offered by Windows Update, Microsoft activated this week Windows Genuine Advantage 1.0.

The program offers access to programs like Windows Media Player, DirectX and Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware only to those users who own a genuine copy of Windows.

Unfortunately for the Redmond company, a hackers has already found a way to bypass the authenticating process from Windows Genuine Advantage. It only takes a few JavaScript code lines in the browser, and the road to Windows Update is clear.

Hackers posted versions of this crack for both IE and Firefox, and there is also a thread on Slashdot where several users say they have succeeded to trick Windows Genuine Advantage.

Microsoft is already looking into the problem and company officials said that a patch for this problem will be issued soon.

In response, the hacker said on his Web page that he will also improve the crack.
