Microsoft has simplified the way that developers can get the devices they build for Windows 8 computers to perform a number of key tasks such as printing, playing to and sharing.

This was done through the introduction of the Devices charm, and Marc Pottier, Senior Program Manager Lead Microsoft, explained in a BUILD session how devs can take advantage of the new resource and even integrate it into Metro style apps.

The Devices charm streamlines printing content, playing to a variety of screens, speakers and receivers as well as sharing with other Windows 8 devices, as long as they’re in the immediate vicinity of the user.

At the bottom of this article, you’ll find embedded the video for the “Integrating with the Windows device experience” session from last week.

According to the official synopsis: “Your Metro style app can easily reach beyond the Windows PC. Using the Devices charm , learn how your app can support printing app on most printers, how to play media content to TVs and audio systems and how to send files and other content to nearby PCs and other devices.”

Pottier explains that behind the Devices charm is the concept of making it as easy as possible for Windows 8 customers to use all the devices connected to their machine.

At the same time, the goal of this new resource, from a developer standpoint is to make it easier for devs to build new Windows 8 experiences without requiring them to learn about protocols and drivers.

“The Devices charm makes it easy for people to find devices and developers to use them in apps,” Pottier promises.

Of course, with Windows 8 Developer Preview Build 8102 Milestone 3 (M3) available for download since almost a week ago developers worldwide can already start creating projects for the next major iteration of the Windows client.

If Devices charm is what they need, then they should watch the video featuring Pottier.
