On February 29th, Microsoft announced the availability of Windows 8 Consumer Preview, none other than the beta release of its upcoming client.

The company has already made the platform available for download and offered a variety of details on the OS, but it seems that it has even more of them to share.

Along with Windows 8, Microsoft introduces a new approach to the development of applications. The platform comes with a brand new user interface, the Metro UI, and also delivers support for the building of applications.

To ensure that app builders can take full advantage of the capabilities and features that the new platform version has in store for them, the Redmond-based software giant is holding a series of events dedicated to app development.

Some of these will be held in Europe as well, starting this month in London. These events will include developer-level, demo-driven sessions so that app builders would be able to get started with the designing of apps for devices powered by the Windows 8 platform.

Apps built to fit the Metro UI will be distributed via the Windows Store, which also debuted in beta along with the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

“You may have seen the recently released Consumer Preview of Windows 8, giving you a taste of what our new Operating System has to offer. Windows 8 offers unparalleled new opportunities for application developers to build and sell apps world-wide via the Windows Store,” Microsoft notes in a blog post.

“This spring we’re running a series of overview sessions for developers across the UK. Join us to get the inside story on how best to take advantage of these opportunities and get ahead of the game on your app building.”

The aforementioned developer events in UK will take place as follows: London, Friday, 30th March 2012; Manchester, Friday, 27th April 2012; Edinburgh, Tuesday, 1st May 2012.

Sessions will be focused on the new Metro design / language, as well as on the new capabilities and connectivity of Windows Runtime. Moreover, Microsoft will also discuss the selling of apps directly to customers via the Windows Store.

Developers can already register for the said events. They will simply have to head over to Microsoft’s website for that. Registration for the London event is already full, but those for Manchester and Edinburgh are still open.
