Users can now find the new update on various file-sharing websites

As I told you not a long time ago, Microsoft has prepared the RTM Escrow version of Windows 8.1 Update 1, which is actually a final build that won’t receive any major improvements in the coming weeks.

Now it turns out that Windows 8.1 Update 1 RTM Escrow has leaked and is available for download from file-sharing websites, so those who wish to give it a try can do it right now on either x64 or x86 hardware configurations.

There is a major difference as compared to previous leaks though. This new version, labeled as build number 9600.16610, comes in MSU format, so there’s no dedicated ISO that allows a clean install of the update.

Instead, users need to download the KB2919355 and KB2919442 MSU files and install them over a clean version of Windows 8.1.

There are only minor changes in this build, including some taskbar improvements and performance optimizations, but it’s clearly still worth a try.
