Windows 10 for phones preview is expected to launch sometime this month, and while a few users have already received it in various regions across the world, it turns out that everyone else might have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on the new mobile OS.

And yet, don’t be too excited about this new release because you might not receive it in the beginning, as Joe Belfiore confirmed on Twitter that only a subset of phones would get the first Windows 10 for phones preview build when it becomes available.

In other words, only a few devices would get it at first, while the rest of Lumias running Windows Phone are expected to be provided with the preview at some point in the coming months.

And yet, there is some good news for those who have already purchased a low-end Lumia phone, such as the Lumia 520.

Joe Belfiore confirmed in a tweet that Microsoft would indeed ship the preview of Windows 10 for phones to devices with 512 MB of RAM as well, but no other specifics as to when this could happen were provided.

And yet, he did say that Lumia 520 was on the list to get the upgrade, and it’s no wonder why: this particular model is currently the most popular Windows Phone device on the market and is very likely to remain so for many months.

The Windows 10 for phones preview will be available through a new insider program which allows users to download early builds of the operating system through a dedicated Windows Phone app, in a similar way they can do on PCs.

Obviously, Microsoft recommended beginners to stay away from this program because the preview is likely to come with bugs and issues, so the experience is very likely to be affected until a more reliable version is released.

Windows 10 for phones is expected to make its full debut in the fall of 2015 together with the PC version, after eventually reaching RTM during the summer.
