Windows 10 for phones preview is now available for download, but needless to say, this is a very early build of the operating system that's supposed to reach RTM sometimes this summer.

In other words, bugs are something to be expected no matter your device, so make sure that you don't install it on your main phone because you might not be able to perform certain tasks because of the existing issues.

We've come across a list of known bugs in Microsoft's documentation for Windows 10 for phones preview, so it's pretty clear that for now, this is a very early build of the operating system and only those with secondary phones are recommended to get it.

For instance, your existing alarms won't work in Windows 10, additionally language keyboards might not be offered, even though the operating system is indeed available in several languages.

No VPN support for now

If you hope to get the preview to connect to your workplace, that's not going to happen, as VPN support is now available and setting will fail to launch.

Quiet Hours, a feature that continues to be available via Cortana, won't work and cannot be automatically enabled during calendar events.

What's more, apps are not displayed in the Battery saver app, so you can't track battery consumption of each app, while cellular data doesn't work in roaming mode. One of the most critical bugs right now is related to APNs, as Microsoft says that in some cases, APNs in recovery images can fall out of date. This leads to cellular data and MMS features to stop working all of a sudden on some phones and networks, so you might be unable to browse the web without a Wi-Fi connection at random times.

Redmond says this is “the earlier preview we've ever done,” so you're going “to see some rough edges.” In other words, don't blame the company for the bugs you find because this is still work in progress, so better stability and reliability are expected in future updates.
