A number of users criticize Microsoft's new approach

With Windows 10, Microsoft wants to bring its platforms, including PCs, tablets, and phones, closer together, in an attempt to offer a similar experience across all devices.

As a result, the company is working to make all versions of Windows 10 look almost the same, not only to make the transition from one device to another easier but also to bring the power of its new operating system on all devices.

And while this is indeed a very good idea, it needs to be done right, and after looking at Windows 10 for phones, some users are not at all pleased with the new approach.

A post on UserVoice criticizes Microsoft for making Windows 10 for phones look too similar to the PC version, pointing out that the preview makes it clear that its new mobile operating system “looks like a desktop-first, mobile-second experience.”

Add more gestures and make everything easier to reach

The user who posted the suggestion on UserVoice explains that adding new gestures for faster and easier navigation is one of the ways Windows 10 for phones could be improved, emphasizing that everything must be within reach and “not on top left corner of bigger phones.”

“The mobile experience, from the technical preview, does not look like the Windows phone experience was developed for a phone, but one ported to a phone,” he states.

The new settings screen is probably living proof that Microsoft is indeed working to bring the PC version of Windows 10 on phones as well, as the new look of the menu that was previously available in the PC technical preview is now offered on smartphones too.

While the settings screen and the “extras” menu indeed look fresh, they clearly need a lot of refinements, especially because the later seems to be really hard to use on devices with smaller screens.

Of course, many things currently available in the first preview are going to change before the final version of the OS gets the green light, but if you feel the same, make sure you submit your votes on UserVoice to help make Windows 10 a better platform for phones.
