The RTM will arrive via Windows Update for insiders

Windows 10 will be here in approximately one month, and because many questions still don't have an answer, Microsoft posted a detailed blog post today to explain how insiders are going to receive the final bits of the operating system when it becomes available.

As we've reported to you recently, Windows 10 RTM might be free for insiders (keep in mind that this is not yet entirely clear and Microsoft could change its mind in the coming weeks – we've asked for some clarification on this offer and will update when we get an answer), so everyone was wondering how exactly the company is planning to update their systems to the final version of the OS.

Redmond says that on July 29, computers running preview build of Windows 10 will be updated to RTM via Windows Update and the OS will arrive just like any other build released as part of the program.

New build coming next week?

So if you are running Windows 10 preview build 10130 (or a newer one, as Microsoft is planning to ship an updated version very soon, most likely next week), you'll see Windows 10 RTM in Windows Update and will be allowed to get it all automatically, just like any other update as part of the Insider program.

“Windows Insiders running the Windows 10 Insider Preview (Home and Pro editions) with their registered MSA connected to their PC will receive the final release build of Windows 10 starting on July 29th. This will come as just another flight,” Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said.

Microsoft is very likely to ship a new Windows 10 preview next week, as the company is now working on polishing the operating system ahead of the big launch on July 29. Redmond has already confirmed that fixing the latest bugs and adding general improvements to the operating system is a priority, so we're going to see fewer new features and options added in the next build.
