As expected, Microsoft rolled out an updated version of Windows 10 Technical Preview that comes with several improvements in terms of looks and usability.

At this point, all users can download the new build via the integrated Windows update system that was specifically designed for Windows 10 Technical Preview. To do this, just launch the PC settings from the Start menu, go to Update and Recovery and select the “Preview builds” option.

Once you hit the download button, you need to wait until all files are deployed on your computer. A reboot is then required once the process comes to an end.

Windows 10 Technical Preview is the very first version of the next Microsoft operating system and was specifically designed for advanced users. Redmond expects everyone testing this build to submit feedback and help the company improve performance and its features, so in case you get it as well, make sure that you let the software giant know about the things you don't like.

The download process of Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9860 could take a while, depending on your Internet speed, and in case you can't see the new tidbits right now, just check back in a few minutes. The download size is ranging in between 2 GB and 2.74 GB depending on your CPU time. A new “installing your apps” screen will also be displayed after installation.

What's new

As expected, the new build comes with a fresh notification center, the same that was included in the original testing version, but obviously unlocked for everyone.

As rumored, the notification center looks very similar to the one in Windows Phone 8.1, but adds new functionality to match the desktop. Only basic notifications are supported for now, but Microsoft says that quick actions and a revised UI will be added at a later time.

“You’ll see notifications from the system and apps – from new emails and invites to IMs, Facebook posts and more – all in one place, so you don’t miss a thing. Click on the new Action Center icon in the notification area of your taskbar to check it out,” the company says.

At the same time, the new build allows users to move apps from one monitor to another in case you are working with multiple monitors. The Win + Shift + arrow key is the shortcut to do this.

There's also a new animation for switching desktops, which Microsoft says should make it clear that you are jumping from one desktop to another.

Overall, the new version comes with approximately 7,000 improvements, but most have been made under the hood, the company says.

Keep in mind that after installing the new build, the system will need some time to load all files and apply the changes, so performance might be a little bit affected at first.
