Microsoft is bringing quite a lot of changes in Windows 10, and the technical preview builds that can be downloaded right now are living proof that, as compared to its predecessors, the new OS will make everything not only more appropriate for all users, but also more appealing in terms of looks.
One of the undiscovered changes that could be part of Windows 10 is a new login screen layout that's already available in build 9901 if you turn down to a little registry hack.
Basically, Microsoft is working to change the old look of the login screen and reposition elements, such as your profile picture and the password box in order to make the layout look a bit more modern. In terms of usability, it's not yet clear how the new configuration would improve things, but there's no doubt that this is a very helpful addition to Windows 10.
How to enable it
This new login screen design is not enabled by default and can only be activated by turning to a little registry hack that only exists in Windows 10 build 9888 and 9901. Both are leaked builds and aren't yet shipped through the official Windows Update channel belonging to Microsoft.
So, supposing that you are running one of the above builds, here's what you need to do to enable this feature:
Launch the registry editor by typing “regedit.exe” in the Start menu search box and navigate to the following path:
If you want to go back to the original configuration, simply change the value back to “Threshold.”
As BetaArchive user RestaNZ writes, the lock screen also has a different design with no background and full transparency, while the time and date are placed in the bottom left corner.
All these features are very likely to be part of the next Technical Preview build released by Microsoft, which, according to information offered by the company itself, should be shipped to users later this month.
