$15,000 up for grabs from Activision

Activision, together with GGL have announced the Ultimate Mercenary Tournament for the newly released Soldier of Fortune: Payback. Translating the title, we'll get the following: "It's time to pay you back... a fortune, soldier!" Sounds interesting enough? Playing games and earning huge amounts of cash always sounds interesting. Now the prize is $15,000.

The tournament will take place in New York but, if you're not near that place, don't worry, Activision and GGL have sorted that out, too: all expenses are paid for your trip to New York as well. Now grab your parents' hands and get them over here to read this piece of news: playing video games isn't that bad as they said it was, is it?

Of course, it's not like anybody could enter the competition because that would probably mean... well... everybody. Qualifying tournaments will be held starting January 2008, so only the best of the best will compete to become number 1 and $15,000 richer. But, if your think that your skills at SOF: Payback ain't that good yet, you shouldn't panic, because there is still a chance: until January 2008 you can enter the practice rounds and... a good place to start would be here.

The Ultimate Mercenary Tournament will offer single and team play ladders in the online multiplayer modes. Ten finalists will pack their bags and head to New York City in February for a spot in the championships to be televised on Voom GamePlay HD.

So, recap: you will play a great first person shooter, you'll get a free trip to New York, you race for 15,000 dollars and you'll be on TV. What could you want more?

SOF: Payback is the third installment of the game series. The saga continues with the mercenary organization known as "The Shop," where players take on the role of a hired mercenary. Players will experience all the mercenary combat, blasting their way through high intensity combat situations in the world's most dangerous hotspots with an arsenal of weapons capable of doing massive amounts of damage. In case you didn't know that already.
