The Wii U home console from Nintendo might not yet have a launch date but some developers are already talking about how easy it is to actually create video games for it when compared to the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.

David Adams, who is the general manager at Vigil, spoke to Game Informer about the tech demo for the Wii U version of Darksiders 2, saying, “We got the word from corporate, ‘Can you guys pull this off in time for E3?’ And we were like … sure. We weren’t really sure we could do it.”

But when the team got their hands on the Wii U and began to work with it they found that it was easy to develop their content for the new platform.

Adams added, “From a pure programmer point of view, it’s definitely a lot easier than, say, the PS3 was. It’s probably on par with 360 as far as ease of API, simplicity of how you interact with the hardware.”

Colin Bonstead, who is the technical director working at Vigil, added that the entire process of creating the Wii U Darksiders 2 tech demo took about five weeks, from the moment the team found out about the opportunity to the moment they finished their work, just one day before the Nintendo E3 press conference.

It took only three programmers to create the showcase, with all the assets taken from other versions of the game.

Despite the ease of use, it seems that Nintendo still has some work to do on the Wii U, mainly documenting features and abilities in order to make sure that the development teams have a solid base to start from.

The Wii U, with its superior computing power and its touch screen controller, is set to be launched during 2012 and Darksiders 2 will be a release date title.
