It seems that Nintendo has managed not only to make the Wii home gaming console the best sold of the generation and the Nintendo DS one of the most ubiquitous platforms for videogames in the world but to also to pride on the best sold title of the decade beginning with the year 2000. The game is Wii Play, one of the launch titles for its home console, which has reached 11.1 million copies shipped and is continuing to move units to gamers.

The NPD Group has offered new data showing that the second placed videogame in the decade chart, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, sold about 3 million units less than Wii Play.

Nintendo has another strong contender for the title of best sold videogame of the last ten years, posting sales of 7.9 million at the moment and poised to break through the 8 million barrier by the end of the year. This means that it might soon surpass San Andreas after going past by GTA: Vice City, which has sold 6.9 million units. One problem could be the slowdown in sales that Wii Fit has seen in the last few months as Nintendo begun pushing the Plus sequel.

Cammie Dunaway, vice president of Nintendo of America, told IGN that “Honestly, we have tried to get the market clean of Wii Fit because we want consumers to be exposed to the new product and eliminate any confusion in the market place. So it's really tough to predict what October numbers are going to look like. There's certainly an opportunity there. That being said, we think Wii Fit Plus really expands upon the marketplace. And the new enhancements that come with Wii Fit Plus are going to make it appeal to an even broader audience."

Fifth place in the decade chart is occupied by Mario Kart Wii, another Nintendo title, which has managed to sell about 6.7 million copies. So, it seems that Rockstar and Nintendo are the most important videogame creators since 2000.
