Ever since it was only a project, Nintendo's Wii has seen much talk regarding the virtually limitless possibilities of delivering real-like action with help from its special remote. Good news from Midway, as those concerned about Wii's ability to offer brutal acts of violence need no looking further. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is going to be ripping spinal chords out on the next-gen console in spring next year. The developer made the announcement today, along with several other details about the PS2 Premium Pack and Xbox version arriving in stores on October 9, 2006. Forums are ablaze with excitement, as people can't wait to see exactly how finishing moves like pulling out an opponent's beating heart will work with the Wii-mote.

Here's what Steve Allison, chief marketing officer at Midway studios, had to say on IGN: "We are extremely excited to be bringing the action of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon to the Nintendo Wii in early 2007. Our Chicago studio, under the direction of Ed Boon, has been working extremely hard to make Armageddon stand out in a big way with the inclusion of the entire Mortal Kombat character lineup, the Motor Kombat mini-game, a new Konquest mode and several other innovative gameplay additions that help keep the franchise at the top of its genre. We're confident that Wii fans will truly appreciate the finished product when it's ready to hit store shelves."

Pictures recently leaked to the internet showed some brand new characters too, including Florian, Crecente and Bashcraft. Armageddon will effectively end the franchise on current-gen consoles, bringing together every single Mortal Kombat character ever concieved, for one last furious tournament. The Konquest mode is said to present players with fast brawling action in the vein of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. The game will also be the first title to feature additional modes like Create-a-Fighter, for full customization procedures, and Create-a-Fatality for endless gore-filled fun.

Midway has not yet revealed how it plans to take advantage of Nintendo's unique controller for the Wii version of the title. Fans refuse to let go of the idea of seeing 12 year olds miming the moves needed to tear someone's spine out and hold it overhead sneering, blood sprinkling down over their faces. That's Fatality for you, so if you can't beat them, join them!
