Next-gen war to begin

You could probably call Nintendo the loser of the last video-game console war, as Bloomberg does, but if I were you, I wouldn't count them out of this new battle against the PS3 as they plan to spend some US$ 200 million to promote the Wii. If you ask me, that's US$ 200 million too many.

First of all, the console will probably sell itself as it is much better and much, much cheaper than the PS3. Just look what happened with the PS3, and come to think that Sony's console costs twice as much as the Wii. The PS3 is twice the Wii's size and twice its price. Will it register twice its sales? I guess not, if we are to take into consideration the aggressive advertising campaign to be started by Nintendo.

This campaign will start just as the console launches on the 19th, just two days after the US launch of the PS3, and will focus on Wii's ease of use and its family friendly games. The next-gen battle is being taken between Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony, but Microsoft managed to get a head start as they released the Xbox 360 last year. They were smart and thought ahead, good for them.
