Makism 3D's first desktop printer is set to launch soon

It was only a few days ago that Makism 3D Corp. was bought by the Cambridge, UK-based Umicron, a 3D printer manufacturer. Now, it's already introducing its first desktop 3D printer, the Wideboy. The new printer is not on sale yet, but the company is taking preorders.

The Wideboy is a rather stylish-looking 3D printer with a fully enclosed printing space. The printer is designed to work with a wide range of materials, thanks to its thermally controlled enclosure.

The Wideboy has a dual extruder setup capable of churning out materials such as PLA, ABS, Nylon, polycarbonate, high impact polystyrene, polyvinyl alcohol and others.

"Makism3D’s flagship product Wideboy is designed to elegantly enable organizations and individuals to affordably create high-quality manufactured prototypes, parts and objects rapidly and with a high degree of precision," the company explains.

"The Wideboy offers a minimalist yet elegant design that fits any office or professional space, features high quality British/German engineered components, and unlike competitor 3D printers comes ready to use directly out-of-the-box," it adds.

The printer is not yet available and there's no price listed, but do expect it to compare, favorably perhaps, with the MakerBot Replicator 2 in both performance and price.
