Survey tries to answer that question

While we're still waiting for the iPhone's launch, several questions still don't have an answer, like how many people would in fact buy the iPhone or why is it that they like the handset so much. A recently conducted survey, by Harris Interactive Research, aims to reveal some possible answers to all these questions.

Apparently 9 percent of the people in the survey would buy the phone at launch while another 8 percent would get an iPhone before their current wireless service contract expired.

17 percent would consider getting the handset only after their contract expires while as much as 25 percent of them won't buy an iPhone unless their existing service provider carries it. In the end, things are bound to change if the iPhone does come with a rebate, as approximately 40 percent of the buyers are waiting for the price to come down.

Now while it's clear that many people are interested in the Apple's phone, we've yet to find out why. Apparently, 37 percent of the potential buyers are mostly interested in the large storage capacity it provides followed by 36 percent who found its quad band worldwide capabilities attractive.

The phone's stylish user interface was also very appreciated by 31 percent of the respondents. Finally, 31 percent of those polled claimed that they were attracted by the iPhone due to the features it includes, while the rest stated that they'd prefer a handset that is simpler, without all the added features.

What does this tell us? That the iPhone is, as expected, going to sell big time, with At&t also getting some extra customers that have switched over from their previous carriers just to be able to buy Apple's handset. Harris Interactive expects a long term success and the expansion of the phone to other carriers.
