Pretty much like the rest of the world, the ladies on ABC’s The View also chimed in on this week’s biggest story, that of the fight between Jay Z and Solange Knowles, which Beyonce witnessed without doing anything.

The fight took place in an elevator at a MET Gala 2014 afterparty and was captured on video by a surveillance camera.

While the co-hosts voiced theories that have also been mentioned by celebrity pundits, with their favorite being that Beyonce didn’t interrupt the fight because Solange was actually defending her, it was Whoopi Goldberg’s that has managed to raise some eyebrows.

As she sees it, the moment a woman goes to the extremes and punches or slaps a man, she should expect the exact kind of treatment from him. Like Solange was.

“I think Solange was ready for him to do whatever he was going to do. This is the thing, if anybody hits you, you have the right — I know that many people are raised in a very different way but if a woman hits you, to me, you have the right to hit her back. If I slap a man, he has every right to slap me back,” Whoopi says.

To his credit, Jay Z didn’t do that, but merely tried to keep Solange from hurting him while his bodyguard did the rest, restraining her.
