Actor believes he burned all his bridges in the industry

When Mickey Rourke was younger and still riding the wave of fame, he was the closest thing to an uncontrollable force of nature. Everything he did was on the spur of the moment and, most often than not, they were all bad things that got people to shut him out gradually. This is precisely the reason why Rourke will not be getting an Oscar at this year’s ceremony, the actor tells the British Daily Mail.

Because of the way he acted back then and mostly due to the fact that the movie industry is rarely a forgiving one, Mickey Rourke simply does not see how him winning an Oscar could happen. Of course, he is nominated in the Best Actor category, the odds are all on him, and he’s got critics singing his praises, but he personally is not convinced that he can actually get to take home the much coveted statuette.

“Well, I don’t know,” Mickey says when the Mail asks him if he has any hopes for the Oscars night. “It’s voted for by people from the movie business and in the past I’ve hacked them all off. I was good at that. It came easy to me. I stupidly said acting wasn’t a job for a real man. I threatened producers, raged at directors, forgot my agent’s name. I really burned my bridges. And a lot of people have long memories.” the actor adds for the same publication.

At the same time, bridges is not all that Mickey burned in his youth days. He also burned the candle at both ends and lost everything in the process, as he himself recollects. “I was out of control and did not think the party was going to end. My mansion in Beverly Hills was like something from Halloween III - Elvis on acid. You don’t think it is going to end and when it does, it is real scary. I lost everything: my house, my career, my wife. My life was a disaster zone.” Rourke reveals.

Be that as it may, Rourke’s performance in “The Wrestler” is truly stunning, critics opine, and no one should let his past behavior stand in his way to finally getting that statuette.
