Appearing in SketchUp?

Most of the Google SketchUp users were quite curios: who's the man appearing in the application and what's his role in this 3D modeling tool? This is the answer: the dude from the downloadable program is one of the SketchUp team members and has a very important role: he can be used as a scale figure to allow you to design other drawings in comparison with his size. According to John Bacus, Product Manager at Google, the figure was changed since SketchUp 6 when Bryce appeared in the product, followed by Sandra, Greg and John.

"Sometimes it's hard to know how big something is when you're just sketching it out for the first time. So we added a scale figure (a person, basically) to some of our default SketchUp templates. That way, you can rough out an idea by modeling relative to the person, instead of by paying close attention to the Value Control Box. Having a little dude on the screen also helps new users figure out which way is up," John Bacus, Product Manager, said today.

As you might know, Google added interoperability with Earth since the version 6.0, allowing the users to create high-looking 3D drawings to be included in the mapping tool. Since the function was official rolled out, numerous users developed their own buildings, streets and cities and published them on the official Google Warehouse page.

It's obvious that the Mountain View company is doing all the efforts to make Google Earth the most powerful application in its category, the recently released statistics sustaining this plan. For example, the Google representatives sustained that the mapping utility is more popular than Windows XP, being installed on approximately 200 millions of computers. If you want to download Google Earth, you can take it straight from Softpedia. SketchUp is also available on our website on this link.
