Announced at the beginning of the year, Samsung S5260 Star II is now available in UK on PAYG (Pay As You Go) from O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone, from £80.00.

Also known as Samsung Tocco Icon, this is the successor of the Samsung Star feature-phone, one of the most popular affordable touch phones.

According to the Korean manufacturer, the original Samsung Star sold in more than 10 million units by the end of 2010.

Unfortunately, it took Samsung more than two years to launch Star's successor, an upgrade long-awaited by fans of the original.

However, while Samsung Star was one of the most popular handsets in the early days of entry-level touch phones, Tocco Icon will certainly have a harder time pleasing the customers with all the competition on the market these days.

In terms of design, the Samsung Tocco Icon is not very different from the original Star, but its finish is definitely superior.

It comes with the same 3.0-inch display with 262K colors support and 240 x 400 pixels resolution, but unlike the Star's resistive touchscreen, this one is capacitive.

It packs only 30 MB of internal memory, but it also embeds a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB).

The feature-phone comes with TouchWiz 3.0 UI and 14 pre-installed widgets, but more can be downloaded from Samsung Apps.

One of the strong features of the Tocco Icon that seems to make the phone more appealing than its predecessor is the included Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity.

In terms of software, the phone features Facebook and Twitter social network integration, Gtalk, AIM, Facebook chat, Yahoo Instant Messaging, as well as document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF).

It is unclear why the manufacturer did not rate the phone's 1000 mAh Li-Ion battery, but users report more than 10 days of medium use per charge.
