WhipTail, a provider of solid-state drive (SSD) tier 0 appliances, has recently announced the introduction of its new 6TB WhipTail SSD appliance, a 2U storage solution that is said to be the highest-capacity SSD tier 0 appliance available for mid- to large-sized enterprises. According to the company, the new solution has been designed to deliver a number of features that will enable up to 90% energy saving, a 60% reduction of the data center footprint and a 90% cut in load times.

“One of Tier 0 storage's downfalls to date has been the perception within the industry that it's too expensive,” said Ed Rebholz, CEO of WhipTail Technologies. “Since WhipTail's introduction earlier this year, we've already made significant strides in helping our industry peers to gain a new perspective. And in introducing the 6TB capacity, not only is WhipTail setting the bar for performance, footprint and affordability, but now we're the SSD capacity leader.”

According to the company, its new release will be made available to customers in capacities of 1.5, 3.0 and 6.0TB, providing for a complete line of storage solutions for enterprises that require optimized performance for their databases, storage pools or email systems. When compared to traditional storage, the new solution from WhipTail is said to provide a number of enhancements, including:

Accelerates the delivery of data by a factor of 10

Reduces report run time by a factor of 10

Provides up to 90 percent energy savings

Reduces the data center footprint by 60 percent

Reduces database report generation and load time by 90 percent

Unfortunately, such storage solutions don't come cheap, which is the case with WhipTail's latest offering. According to them, the new solutions will be made available for prices starting at US$46,000 for the lowest capacity model, namely the 1.5TB one.
