Some of you might remember that earlier this month select numbers of WhatsApp users who were accepted in the beta program have received the long-awaited voice call feature.

Those who received invitations were able to take advantage of the new feature, but now reports are coming in that voice call is available for more people.

Over the weekend, WhatsApp has switched on the flip for more users in an attempt to test voice call feature before making it available for general public.

Assuming you had the latest version of WhatsApp Messenger for Android (2.11.528) downloaded from Google Play Store or 2.11.531 installed directly from WhatsApp's website.

If you had one of these two versions of WhatsApp installed on your Android smartphone, then you were eligible for getting the voice call feature.

The feature activated itself, so you needn’t do any additional updates. It's also worth mentioning that those who received the new feature could activate voice call for other users by simply calling them.

WhatsApp users received the new feature by being called by those who had it activated

This has been possible for a limited time, as WhatsApp turned off the flip for voice call probably because it reached the limit of users that the developer planned before letting more people into the beta.

As AndroidPolice reports, the voice calls feature is directly integrated into WhatsApp Messenger. It features a dedicated tab, which shows the incoming and outgoing calls, just like for the dialpad. The missed calls are shown on the tab as well.

In order to initiate a voice call with one of your contacts, you only need to open a chat window with that contact and you will notice a call button in the action bar that will allow you take advantage of this feature.

Are you one of the lucky WhatsApp users who received the voice call feature? How does it fare on your Android smartphone?
