As it always goes, incremental updates for the Client version of Mac OS X are always released for the Server version of the operating system, this time being no different. In OS X 10.6.2 Server, Apple has addressed countless errors, including some of the security issues plaguing 10.6.1 builds.

“The 10.6.2 update is recommended for all servers currently running Snow Leopard Server version 10.6 and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your server,” Apple says on the Downloads section of its web site. According to the Cupertino-based Mac maker, these fixes also include a few specific ones for key areas of the software, a list of which Apple feels compelled to make available at first glance.

- adding and removing imported users in Server Preferences - synchronizing Portable Home Directory content - using iCal web interface within select time zones - previewing and capturing dual-source video in Podcast Capture - server-side filtering of incoming mail messages - using chained digital certificates for mail services - creating images with System Image Utility - automating installation of NetRestore images - preventing brute force password attacks - using sudo command with authenticated Open Directory binding - binding to Active Directory domains with invalid service records - creation of mobile accounts for Active Directory users - correcting a problem that would cause the Software Update cache to grow excessively

Following the path provided by Apple to its Support section, users learn that Mac OS X 10.6.2 holds a lot more changes than meets the eye. For example, the Software Update Service, which now works when updates are stored on a volume that has a space in its name, has been improved. User bandwidth limitations are also now correctly applied, according to the release notes made public by the Mac maker.

And, as mentioned a bit earlier, the 10.6.2 release also improves the security of the operating system, on both Client and Server sides. In addition, Mac OS X Server v10.6.2 includes all other improvements delivered in the client Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update, according to the company.
