Fingerprint recognition is one of the most useful high-tech features that mobile phones have started to include lately. It first appeared in Japan and even at this time, it is mostly used on handsets produced in this country, although it has high chances of becoming a standard feature sometime in the future.

We've all seen movies where security measures include iris scanning and fingerprint recognition among other high technologies. Most of us use the mobile phone as more than a telecommunication device and store a large amount of personal data on it, especially when the memory space allows it. Some of us might consider these documents as highly private and would like them hidden from curiosity-mongers. Passwords can be broken, but what can one do when "confronted" with a fingerprint request?

Sounds like the perfect technology, especially as the number of touch sensitive mobile phones has increased lately. More than 80 percent of all phone models released by Altrua Technologies include the fingerprint recognition solution. From the beginning of the year, 12 more handsets which include this technology have been released.

This technology is used in phone models coming from Toshiba, CECT, Kyocera, and Sagem/Porsche Design. It proves to be a step forward, considering the fact that, in 2006, only two handsets including this function have been released.

NTT DoCoMo also enables its subscribers to use their handsets as wallets and pay taxes the mobile way. This being the case, it seems only natural that users will want to protect access to the functions of their cellulars.

It looks like mobile phones coming with fingerprint recognition capabilities have a high potential of being sought for from now on. Atrua Technologies considers that the market for such technology is only taking off at this time and that in the future it will be available on a considerably larger number of cell phones.
