If you are the one that holds the answer to this question, please be so kind as to let us know and remove us all form under the shadow cast by the "doing more and more things together" comment.

Joking aside, the thing is no one can really tell what exactly are Google and Apple working on. Google's CEO Eric Schmidt was asked during a technology conference on Monday whether the two companies are currently working on a tablet-style computer.

The answer was vague, to say the least. Not only did he not give a straight answer, but stated they are "doing more and more things together. We have similar goals, similar competitors". I'd say Eric Schmidt managed to fuel rumors better than Jobs himself, judging by his declaration.

So, as we have no idea what the CEO was talking about, let the speculations begin. He might have been referring to the pre-installment of Google Maps on iPhone, but that's just old news. He also might be referring to a stronger integration of Google in the Safari web browser, with a hardware device involved. Google is said to be working on a phone of its own, perhaps borrowing some iPhone 'expertise'? "Similar goals, similar competitors", you say?

Eric Schmidt is a member of the Cupertino board of directors and spoke during the iPhone announcement at the Macworld Expo, this January. He was named Most Important Person on the web yesterday by the team at PC World, along with his fellow Google execs, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin.

Apple's Steve Jobs was ranked second in this same PC World Top 50. I can't even get to imagine what these two leading figures are up to, but I'm sure there will be a lot to write about.
