Glenn Close in the role that will crown her already impressive career

Let the Oscar hype begin. Since it’s a well-known fact that Academy members are suckers for drastic onscreen transformations, they’ll most certainly love Glenn Close in Rodrigo Garcia’s upcoming “Albert Nobbs.”

In her latest passion project, Close plays a woman who disguises herself as a man, Albert Nobbs, in order to take a job as a waiter / butler in a hotel in Ireland.

This is the 19th century and the desire to make a fortune in order to set up her own business more than explains her initial decision of passing herself for a man. However, in time, she finds she no longer knows who she is anymore.

With a solid cast that also includes Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson, Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Pauline Collins, “Albert Nobbs” plays out like a drama with elements of mannered comedy.

It also strikes from the start as a very stylish take on a story that would otherwise be devastating, that of a woman who renounces herself to become somebody else because there’s no other way she can see her dream come true.

“Albert Nobbs” is scheduled for theatrical release on January 27, 2012.
