In cyber-security, of course?

Today is September 17, so there are 13 days left of this month. October is closing in and guess what is going to bring us! This year, October will be the "Cyber Security Awareness Month". That just fills a geek's heart with joy, but unfortunately, it is not something global, but it's limited to the US. It's sad that not every country would pick up the initiative, since cyber-security is something that affects us all. In any case, I applaud the American initiative, which came from the NCSA (National Cyber Security Alliance) and that is going to have a great impact on all users. I wonder if every country has such an organization, because if they don't, they should come up with one as fast as possible.

To some, this month may just mean that they might get some free t-shirts for attending some conference, but to the rest of the public, this means that they are going to be taught something about computer security. Dubbing October as "Cyber Security Awareness Month" means that people will be more aware of all the nasty stuff that is going on over the Internet, so they will protect themselves better. As facts show it, a lot of people get hacked because they are not prudent when surfing the web, or because they know too little about security in this field. So with this campaign underway, I think that individual cyber-security might just get a little bit better.

It's a great thing that such campaigns occur, but it's a bad thing that they don't happen more often. In any case, this should be an example to other countries. If some disapprove with American politics, or their way of doing things, there is no way they will reject this measure. While waiting for this to happen in my country too, all I can say is "Way to go, guys!"
