The name of the Western Digital MyBook Thunderbolt Duo may not quite be enough to reveal every detail about the product, but it comes close.

Just the mention of Thunderbolt is enough to cement its status as external storage solution, not to mention fast one.

Speaking of which, the Thunderbolt standard makes the product even capable of daisy chaining up to six of them.

To get to the point, Western Digital's MyBook Thunderbolt Duo is an external drive case that can house two HDDs of 2 TB or 3TB.

That means that any system, Mac ones in particular, with at least one Thunderbolt port can use 4 TB or 6 TB extra storage. Time Machine backup is supported.

The transfer speed is said to be of 700 MB/s when reading and 500 MB/s when writing (or close enough to those numbers), assuming the HDDs are configured in RAID 0 mode.

"The My Book Thunderbolt Duo offers large storage capacities for creative professionals and enthusiasts who produce, edit, or need quick access to large files, including HD video," said Jody Bradshaw, general manager of WD consumer storage solutions.

"Its dual Thunderbolt ports provide amazing creative flexibility while allowing daisy-chaining of up to six My Book Thunderbolt Duo drives or other high performance peripherals for fast and efficient workflow. The combination of storage, backup, security, flexibility and speed makes the My Book Thunderbolt Duo the ideal choice for creative professionals that need to write, store, protect and edit high-definition and graphic intensive projects."

People should be able to buy the product for $599 (2 x 2 TB) and $699 (2 x 3 TB). The order page is here.

"Offering lightning-fast throughput in both directions, the new WD Thunderbolt Duo storage systems are just what I need for organizing, editing, and archiving complex High Definition video projects," said Bruce Dorn, DGA (Director's Guild of America).
