The computer hardware manufacturing company Western Digital today announced the launch of a new product line that comes as a continuation of its external storage solutions, the My Book family. This product family is composed of several solutions which are specially designed for different fields and uses like the My Book Home Edition, My Book Office Edition and My Book Essential Edition.

The new Western Digital My Book product line comes with varied storage capabilities that range from the home intended 320GB solution to the 1TB one that is more business oriented. As the new Western Digital line is designed with different user types in mind, all products are coming with distinct features like the automatic back up that is implemented on the My Book Home Edition, or the remote access and sharing capabilities found on the My Book Office Edition, while the My Book Essential Edition is the solution for users demanding speed and instant data storage capabilities.

"Just in time for the holidays, we have taken the world's number one selling external hard drive family and redesigned it to solve the particular needs of a diverse customer set," said Jim Welsh, vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups in a press release concerning this new and improved line of products. "With the new My Book family, WD delivers meaningful new features such as continuous backup and remote access while enhancing the qualities of elegance and simplicity that made this family of products so popular."

Among the features found on the new My Book Home Edition there are the possibility to perform automatic and incremental back ups of the primary storage mediums, synchronization and encryption of the preserved data, easily readable capacity meter, drive activity light and a power saving design that allows the unit to enter a low energy mode when it is no longer needed.

The office and business intended My Book Office Edition comes with the same general features that are found of the previous presented model and it also integrates a number of software suites that are designed to maximize the manageability of the unit. The MioNet DriveAccess allows users to remotely manage the drive and to share data in a secure fashion, while another software, the Small Business Tools gives extended control options like the possibility to control a desktop remotely, share a computer screen for online meetings and gain access to files on any of your computers.

All new products from the new Western Digital My Book external storage solutions are coming with a limited one-year warranty and they connect to a host computer system through speedy USB 2.0 data transferring interface. My Book Home Edition, My Book Office Edition and My Book Essential Edition storage appliances are now available in online stores and retail channel dealers and they come with price tags between $129.99 to $379.99 according to model and storage capabilities.
