At least he is moving to a different company, not getting sacked

Western Digital is about to go through a short period of adjustment, as one of its chief staff members has chosen to leave the team.

Fortunately, it isn't because of some big mishap or failure, at least not that we can tell. The chief financial officer is leaving for different reasons.

More specifically, Wolfgang Nickl will resign on November 17 and move with his family to Europe.

Until his departure, he will continue to lead WD's worldwide finances. During that time, the board of directors will be looking for a replacement.

Since they've grown quite comfortable with Nickl after 18 years, it might take them a while to find someone suitable.

"I am grateful for the learning, experience and relationships I have enjoyed in 18 wonderful years at Western Digital," said Nickl. "I look forward to seeing the company continue to grow and successfully execute on the long-term strategy we have put in place."
