Westboro Baptist Church cancels boycott of Lady Gaga’s show on account of the snow

The Westboro Baptist Church claims “God hates Lady Gaga,” for reasons known only to them and Reverend Fred Phelps, who also initiated the campaign. Convinced that this was the absolute truth, the Rev. even vouched to boycott Gaga’s January 7 concert at Fox Theater. However, he was snowed in and could not attend, therefore the entire thing was called off, as RFT can confirm.

When announcing that the boycott of Gaga’s show would not go on as initially planned, the Reverend also made a point of telling the world that this would not be the last time the world hears of the anti-Gaga campaign. In a series of seemingly nonsensical statements to RFT, Phelps stressed that the boycott might have been off, but what the Church said of Gaga and her devilish ways still applied. That is to say, while they’re not boycotting her shows anymore (or, at least not this one), they still think God hates her.

“YES – it is canceled because of the lack of capacity to travel. YAY! Our God doeth all things well. He took that Parody and the words from his people and he dropped them ALL OVER THIS WORLD and then when it came time to make that trip, he shut up this country so they could hold the picket alone and do the work for us. :) YAY! Here is what he did: Isa 26:20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. God is knocking the [expletive] out of this country and all the while he is continuing to give us great and effectual doors of utterance because the time is so very, very short – the destruction of this nation is IMMINENT!! YAY!!” Phelps wrote in an e-mail to the aforementioned source.

With the WBC protest canceled, another group that planned to rally for Gaga’s show had to call off all plans. The latter though did not aim to gather to support Phelps and his followers, but Gaga herself, as it was formed of fans and members of the LGBT community. Led by Ed Reggi of the Show Me No H8 organization, the rally (called a “kiss-in”) was against the Westboro Baptist Church and in support of Gaga, and had the ultimate goal of annoying Phelps and his fellow “hate-mongers.”

“Hello Kissers! Well, over 300 of you said you would be out kissing with us tonight. And I want to thank each and everyone who was willing to show up and show love. However, Phelps is not coming. (Thanks to Ed Reggi for the info on Phelps being snowed-in in KC.) The Pro-Lady Gaga folks might still rally, but the point of the Kiss-in was to get those pics of loving LGBT couples in front of the Phelps family (and to drive the Phelps family crazy). Since they aren;t coming, I am canceling the Kiss-in. Stay home, stay warm, and keep kissing the people you love,” the announcement from member Stephen Houldsworth reads.
