A dog's curiosity got him in trouble in Lowestoft, Suffolk, when he climbed out on top of his house's roof to chase some noisy seagulls and got stuck there.

The West Highland White Terrier wanted to get closer to the birds, but he didn't know he was afraid of heights.

Firefighters were called to the scene to rescue the little dog, called Whisky, after he spent two hours on top of the 25-foot (7.6-meter) high roof. It is thought that the one-year-old terrier climbed out of an open bedroom window when he heard the birds flying nearby.

But when he got on top of the house, the pooch got scared and was unable to find a way down. His owners Jenny and Richard Eacott tried desperately to tempt him down after their other dog, Jazz, alerted them that something was wrong.

They soon realized there was nothing they could do to help the terrier get down of the roof, so they were left with no other option but to call a fire brigade. The firefighters put up a ladder so that they could reach him and carry him down.

“We tried calling him, even dangling ham to him, but he wouldn’t come. The fire crew put up a ladder and being a sociable little dog he came to them and they brought him down,” Jenny said, after the dog was reunited with his family.
