Sonic's wilder side won't disappear

Along the years, a few franchises have really stood out in terms of gaming thanks to their memorable characters and the great adventures that they offered for players to embark on. But while Nintendo-made Mario or Zelda were limited to creating some very high quality versions, Sega's Sonic the Hedgehod series hasn't been quite the same for a few years.

The latest Sonic Unleashed title failed to achieve even decent sales and was met with a very weak fan response as reviewers hated the dodgy controls or the weak storyline. But there was nothing that critics hated more than the introduction of the Werehog form to Sonic, as each night the blue hedgehod we have gotten used to over the years transformed into a wild pseudo-werewolf creature that barely traversed through the nighttime puzzles and platforms and broke the whole pace of the game.

However, while the fan response to the Werehog was very bad, it seems that Tetsu Katano, the director of the next game in the series, Sonic and the Black Knight, believes that with more work behind it the Werehog will certainly make a lot of fans happy and we shouldn't count the wilder Sonic out of future iterations.

“You will see the Werehog again,” Katano says. “In principle, I think that the users are always right. They're the ones paying the money and playing the games. If they don't enjoy it, they're not going to buy it. I don't think that producing the Werehog was a mistake per se, but there were a lot of things we could have done better if we had more time and resources.”

So there you have it, Sonic fans, it seems that the Werehog might appear in future titles, but hopefully with a lot more work, story and dedication behind it. All we can do now though is wait and see if the next title from Sega is any good, or whether it will follow in the patch of mediocrity as the last few ones.
