Wentworth Miller reportedly wants lead role in the Starz-made “Spartacus”

Starz announced that, in light of Andy Whitfield’s cancer requiring him to get more treatment, the best way to go about “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” would be to recast the role. Wentworth Miller wants it.

Though it’s not long that he was saying he was considering taking a break (of sorts) from shooting to focus on his career as a screenwriter, Miller is very interested in “Spartacus.”

In fact, he’s so interested he’s already approached the producers of the show to let them know that, if they wanted him, he’d be ready to take on the part, Michael Ausiello of The Ausiello Files has learned.

“I’m hearing ex-Prison Break con Wentworth Miller has expressed interest in taking over the title role in Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” Ausiello writes.

While the mere possibility of having Miller back on the small screen can’t but be excellent news for fans, whether he’s up for the part of the buff Spartacus is up for debate.

As Ausiello sees it, while Wentworth was perfect for the Michael role in “Prison Break” (which translated into the amazing success the show had), it’s a bit difficult to imagine him in “Spartacus.”

Even with his most recent role in the action / zombie flick “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” it’s a bit difficult to see Miller as the action guy – he’s rather the intellectual type who also does action on occasion, but not always.

“Since his Fox series wrapped, he’s been largely out of the limelight. And when he has been spotted, he hasn’t quite been the picture of buffness that the sand-and-sandals epic demands,” Ausiello says.

Granted, his physique could be greatly improved with the help of a personal trainer and lots of dedication on Miller’s part.

“Personally, while I’m kinda psyched that the actor is finally ready to get back in the game, he doesn’t seem quite right for Sparty. My first pick remains True Blood’s ill-fated Cooter, Grant Bowler,” Ausiello says.

As of now, a definite replacement for Whitfield hasn’t been announced – but make sure to check back here to learn who that will be.
