The action horror game is now coming in October, instead of November

We’ve posted a huge amount of things about Resident Evil 6 in this past week, from more details about its story that’s split into three different campaigns, to a few screenshots and a very impressive video filled with surprises.

Without a doubt, the biggest piece of information about Capcom’s action horror game is its new release date. Instead of appearing on November 20, the game is now going to be launched on the market on October 2.

This pretty major shift once again draws into question the choice of publishers and developers to release games during the months before the winter holiday season.

We’ve already talked about this nasty practice and how it’s now spreading to another season, that of spring.

Now, the earlier release of Resident Evil 6 proves that, no matter how big a gaming brand is, releasing it right towards the end of November is practically a move destined for failure.

What’s more, it’s actually a pretty funny decision, as Capcom even went so far as to warn its rivals to get out of Resident Evil 6’s way earlier this year, saying that they’ll have to move the release dates in order to avoid being crushed by the new horror game.

As you can now see, Capcom was the company who got out of the way, pushing forward the release to a much less crowded early October period.

Even so, Resident Evil 6 will still have to struggle with other games that will appear in September or October, from Borderlands 2 to BioShock Infinite and even Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

This earlier launch also puts into question the quality of the game. Release dates are usually set when a developer knows it will be finished working on the game. Moving it up by over a month is certainly going to affect the period the company reserved for testing and eliminating bugs, so we might end up with quite a few problems in the actual game.

Hopefully, Capcom knows what it’s doing and will make sure that Resident Evil fans will be treated to a great experience with the new game.

What do you think about this move? Is the company right in avoiding late November or should it have respected its first release date?
